Haute Victoire : What is your first memory of jewelry?

The smell of Chanel No. 5 with the subtle sound of my Italian mother’s horseshoe bracelet is my first important jewelry memory. In 1965 my mother received  the horseshoe pendant as a gift from her sister, who bicycled to the jewelry store in the center of their Italian village in Northern Italy, to purchase it for her. It’s one of the most special pieces in my collection.

Nowadays what inspires your jewelry purchases?

I see much jewelry, and to me, most of it is rather uninspiring. When I see something that literally makes me "gasp", then I know it’s something special. I can feel it in my gut. It doesn’t matter if it’s new, vintage, or antique – I seem to know that it is calling to me.

If you were to pick one piece of Haute Victoire jewelry, how would you style it?

The Haute Victoire piece that called to my jewelry-loving soul is the piece I proudly own. It’s a large oval malachite hanging on a vintage gold chain, with a precious teardrop angel skin coral. This is an ideal necklace to wear from jeans to a cocktail kaftan ! It’s a forever piece.

What did you recently buy and love?

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, when I spied a gold bracelet from around 1900. From it, hang 13 ancient Roman coins; it hits many perfect notes with the Roman coins from my Italian heritage, "13" which is my lucky number, my love of substantial charm bracelets and the melodic sound they make as you move through the day.

What are the 3 best cities for shopping?

That’s such a great question, as I do shop for a living. I think my current favorites would be Paris, Milan, and New York.  Though these choices may sound cliché, once you really spend time exploring the areas off the beaten track, it’s amazing what you will find.  Each city has such a special vibe, and their boutiques are so unique and inspiring ! Finding these treasures is the heart and soul of my website, TheCuratedShopper.com

What essentials do you carry in your travel bag?

I freely admit it – I’m not a minimalist, from my home décor to how I pack.  I have no issue paying the heavy bag fees and hauling them around !
I can’t leave home without a great hat – currently a straw fedora from Eric Javits. It’s amazing how a simple accessory can elevate your whole look and salvage a bad hair day.
I also can’t leave home without my orange leather jewelry tray from Palmgrens in Stockholm.  Each day when I return to my hotel room, I take off all my jewelry and store it in this tray and given its bright color, it’s never going to be forgotten at check-out.
I will also never travel without a kaftan. Over the years I’ve built up quite a collection !  They can truly take you anywhere.

Merci Amy !
